Interview tips

  1. Prepare ahead of time.
  2. Ask open-ended questions.
  3. Ask short questions
  4. Don’t make statements.
  5. Build on the subject’s answers.
  6. Relax and listen!

Questions for every interview

  1. Is it OK if I record this?
  2. Confirm name, affiliation, and pronouns
  3. What first got you interested in X?
  4. How would you explain X to a student in middle school?
  5. What surprised you while working on X?
  6. Who disagrees with you about X and what is their best argument?
  7. What are you planning to work on next?
  8. Who else should I talk to about X?
  9. Do you have pictures or videos I can use?
  10. Is there anything else that you think my readers should know? Any last thoughts?
