I recently published an article in The Gradient, a digital magazine covering news and trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. I realized after the article came out that this was my very first published piece aimed at grown-ups. That’s a bit scary, but also exciting!
A Science Journalist’s Journey to Understand AI

This was a very personal piece. It goes through realizations I’ve had as I’ve learned more and more about the fields of AI and cognitive science. Often, I realized I’d been thinking about things all wrong, and that can be tough to admit. But since others probably have some of the same wrong impressions, I think they’re worth sharing.
My hope for this article is that it will help AI researchers improve their communication with people who aren’t AI experts.
